Jewish Star of David

Jewish Community of Las Vegas, New Mexico

Historic Plaque
The building pictured above is the original Temple Montefiore, the first synagogue established in New Mexico in 1884. The temple was originally located at Ninth and Douglas, but was moved to its current location at Eighth and Colombia in 1925. For many years, Congregation Montefiore was a vibrant Reform congregation, but over the years the Jewish population in Las Vegas decreased. The congregation was dissolved in 1955, and the building was transferred to the Catholic Diocese. It is still being used for occasional Jewish services.
